Slimline Dishwashers: A European Trend Heading Our Way

Slimline dishwashers have been around Europe for over a decade. Europeans companies seem to always be a little ahead of us in innovation that is more environmentally friendly and less energy consuming, especially in appliances. Though it has been readily available over in European countries it is just beginning to really make its way into the United States. Why is a slimline dishwasher so popular? It really began as simple solution to help make more space available in the kitchen area.

Unlike us in America, homes in other countries have little space in their kitchens so every inch matters. The manufacturers found that you can create a dishwasher that uses far less space than a standard dishwasher that we are a custom to. This frees up the space in the kitchen for either more cabinetry or dining space.

A standard built dishwasher that you see in almost every home is 24 inches wide; slimline dishwashers however are just less than 18 inches in width, 17.7 to be precise. So you can gain over six inches in space which may not sound like much but over the entire area it is a lot of extra storage space. This 6 inches of space means that instead of getting 12-14 place settings in the dishwasher at one time you can now accommodate 7-9 place settings which is more than enough room for the average family. Once they created the spacing saving aspect they began working on the energy efficient aspect.

What really seems to be gaining traction for these slimline dishwashers in America is the energy savings involved. For example to run a standard load in a standard dishwasher you will use anywhere from 9 to 12 gallons of water. The slimline dishwasher however only uses 2 gallons, on average, of water per load. This savings can add up to lot on your utility bills and it is better for the environment. The good thing about these dishwashers is that they are not a one size fits all appliance in fact there are several options and price ranges for you to choose from.

These include the two types of slimline dishwashers available. These two types are the free standing or portable and the integrated style. The difference is really that one is designed to stand by itself and you can move it around as need be to accommodate your space and the other one gives you the option to have it built into your kitchen cabinetry. You also have many options to choose from when it comes to your model of slimline dishwashers, for example there some that offer 4 types of wash setting and then the more deluxe models give you 8 or more options including prewash cycles and water temperature selections.

With our hectic, fast pace lives we have grown accustomed to the fact that our dishwasher is not a luxury it is a necessity. It helps us to free up our time so we can be doing other more enjoyable activities with our friends and family. As we have become more energy conscious and more aware of the waste we generate we are looking for ways to not only help our environment but also to help us save some money on our utilities and implementing a slimline dishwasher can accommodate both objectives.
